Corruption in European Parliament: Armenian-Greek scheme on way to failure

As the FIFA World Cup is nearing its end, Brussels has been shaken by a corruption scandal - Vice President of the European Parliament Eva Eva Kylie and five others have been detained on charges of involvement in bribery, an attempt to influence the decisions of the European Parliament with the help of large sums of money and gifts by the organizer of the World Championship 2022.

All European media outlets in recent days have been busy with shocking details about the course of searches conducted at 16 addresses in the Belgian capital, including the offices of some European deputies, with the police seizing computers, mobile phones and 600,000 euros. In Eva Eva Kylie's apartment, investigators found ‘bags of cash’, and initially suspicions were raised by a ‘briefcase with cash’ in the hands of the politician’s father, Alexandros Kylis, who tried to hastily leave the Sofitel hotel, located near his daughter’s house in Brussels.

Were the gifts and rewards of the Qatari sheikhs so tempting that high-ranking members of the European Parliament could not refuse 600,000 euros?

A brief insight clearly shows that ‘Qatargate’ is just another round of a corruption scheme that has been carried out for many years behind the walls of the European Parliament. This is proven by the repeated statements of the European Parliament, which contradict the values of the European Union.

Unlike European Commission officials, MEPs are not required to report meetings with lobbyists. Taking advantage of this circumstance, Eva Kylie, who was elected to the European Parliament from Greece, has been closely cooperating with Armenian lobbyists in recent years, in particular, in the face of the head of the European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy (EAFJD) Kaspar Karampetyan, who was also born in Greece and generally has triple citizenship (Greece, Luxembourg and Armenia). The result of such cooperation was a number of anti-Azerbaijani statements by groups of deputies of the European Parliament. All those who signed the statement accusing Azerbaijan of ‘aggression,’ which was circulated on November 19, 2021, are members of the ‘friendship group with Armenia’ in the European Parliament. This group is sponsored by the Karampetyan Federation.

So, who is Kaspar Karampetyan that has so much influence on the European deputies?

Having come a long way from the shuttle trade to the jewelry stores in Brussels, Karampetyan became famous for smuggling colorful diamonds from the conflict regions of Africa to Belgium. Having made money on smuggling, Kaspar became the founder of the mafia-lobby mechanism in the capital of European politics. The EAFJD he created, in conjunction with the foreign intelligence of Armenia, attracted European parliamentarians to the occupied Azerbaijani territories for many years. As a result, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan put Kaspar Karampetyan on the internationally wanted list. As a part of an organized group, in 2014-2018 he repeatedly crossed the state border of Azerbaijan deliberately and illegally through the territory of Armenia, and visited Khankandi and other settlements, where he voiced open calls against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

In 2017, Karampetyan gathered famous European deputies at an exquisite table in a fashionable restaurant in Strasbourg, who later appear in the regions of Azerbaijan occupied at that time, then arranges a “working visit” of the “president” of the unrecognized formation Bako Sahakyan to Brussels.

Using his abilities as a billionaire, oligarch and organizer of the mafia, Karampetyan ‘feeds’ the ‘friends of Armenia’ in Europe.

It is visible even to a naked eye all these ‘friends’ are involved in various corruption schemes. So, Eleni Theocharous was the head of the ‘group of friendship with Armenia’ in the European Parliament earlier. Representing the Greek part of Cyprus in the European Parliament, Eleni Theocharous is known in her country for her dubious activities - one of the accusations made by her competitors during the election campaigns held in Cyprus is related to the lack of transparency in the sources of funding for her political party.

Eleni Theocharous, who was a member of the ‘People’s Party’ faction in the European Parliament, is known for her image as an ‘ordered speaker’ and ‘cooperation with fictitious structures.’ In 2018, she was declared persona non grata in Albania for statements that cast doubt on the territorial integrity of that country. She also visited Nagorno-Karabakh during its occupation. For such activities, Theocharous was isolated from the programs of the European Parliament.

Continuing the policy of attracting his Greek compatriots to his mafia scheme, Karampetyan has also been cooperating with Eva Kylie for several years. The ‘fruits’ of this cooperation were the statements of the European Parliament, which contained so-called accusations, such as ‘threat to the territorial integrity of Armenia’ by the armed forces of Azerbaijan. These 33 deputies, led by Eva Kylie, also called on the European Union to use all levers ‘to prevent encroachment on the territorial integrity of Armenia.’

The recent events beg another question of who the European Parliament serves and who needs it? Being one of the five constituent institutions of the European Union, it has the weakest authority. The head of the Green Faction from Germany, Rebecca Harms, clearly explained the reason for this, noting that the European Parliament is not discussing the problems of Europe, but ‘the agenda of the European Parliament is formed by lobbying groups, each of which is trying to ensure its own interests.’

Undoubtedly, if the Qatargate litigation is carried out incessantly, several millions of Karampetyan’s money will come out of the full portfolios of Eva Kylie, and against this background, the 600,000 euros from the Qatari organizers are just pocket expenses.
