Azerbaijan and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) have begun discussions on implementing the legacy of the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13), Report informs, citing the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture of Azerbaijan.
The talks took place during Committee Chairman Anar Guliyev's working trip to New York, where he met with UN-Habitat Executive Director Anacláudia Rossbach.
The main focus of the meeting was to continue agreements reached during WUF13, held in Baku in May 2026, and to outline the next stage of cooperation between Azerbaijan and UN-Habitat.
It was emphasized that WUF13, the largest event in the forum's history, brought together over 58,000 participants from 176 countries and introduced several innovations initiated by Azerbaijan.
Notably, for the first time, a Leaders' Segment was organized, elevating sustainable urbanization issues to the level of heads of state, government leaders, and international organizations.
The sides highlighted that decisions and initiatives adopted during WUF13 created a strong foundation for future collaboration.
Key outcomes included the adoption of the Baku Call to Action and the Chair's Summary, the establishment of the Baku Urban Planning Award, and the creation of new international cooperation platforms – all contributing to expanded multilateral and multi-level partnerships.
In this context, Azerbaijan and UN-Habitat discussed the next steps for continuing the WUF13 legacy, implementing agreements in practice, and advancing joint initiatives.
