Azerbaijan, Russia sign protocol on Samur River water management

Azerbaijan and Russia have signed a final protocol on the management and allocation of water resources from the transboundary Samur River, according to Azerbaijan's State Water Resources Agency (ADSEA).

The document was signed following the 29th meeting of the Azerbaijan–Russia Joint Commission on the allocation of the Samur River's water resources, held on July 9 in the Gusar district.

The meeting was co-chaired by Zakir Guliyev, the Azerbaijani co-chair of the commission and chairman of the Regional Water Reclamation Service under ADSEA, and Vadim Nikonorov, the Russian co-chair and deputy head of Russia's Federal Agency for Water Resources.

Representatives of relevant Azerbaijani government agencies, including the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Digital Development and Transport, the State Service for Property Issues, and the State Border Service, also attended the meeting.

The participants discussed the allocation of the Samur River's water resources, water monitoring, the joint operation of the Samur Hydrosystem, and other areas of bilateral cooperation. The meeting concluded with the adoption and signing of the final protocol outlining agreed measures.
