WB ready to expand support to Azerbaijan's agriculture

"As part of a project to strengthen the competitiveness of agriculture with the World Bank, researches are underway to assess the capabilities of veterinary services," the World Bank's Country Manager for Azerbaijan Sarah Michael said at an event on private veterinary organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Report informs.

According to her, upon the decree of the President of Azerbaijan, this allows us to switch from the state to the private veterinary system and implement an institutional project: "At the same time, veterinarians will be provided with equipment, which will ensure sustainability in the livestock sector."

She added that the agricultural sector remains a priority in terms of the creation of new jobs: "We are ready to support the Azerbaijani government in this direction. We have been implementing projects in the agricultural sector and participating in the country's diversification for 30 years. Agriculture is the largest non-oil sector. The potential of agriculture can be developed by attracting a large amount of investments. This can lead to the expansion of private entrepreneurship in the agricultural sector. The government is working in this direction. We see new opportunities for cooperation in some fields. We want to contribute to the work done by the government in agriculture."
