Azerbaijan is implementing important projects related to the restoration of religious and historical monuments in the liberated territories, Ramin Mammadov, chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations, said at the G20 Interreligious Forum in Brazil.
According to Report, noting that the Azerbaijani people have suffered from various forms of religious discrimination at different periods in history, Mammadov added that during almost 30 years of Armenian occupation, 65 out of 67 mosques were destroyed: "Currently, important work is being carried out in the liberated territories to preserve religious and historical monuments. In addition, important projects are being implemented to restore the destroyed heritage."
The committee chairman emphasized that for centuries, representatives of different faiths have lived in peace and mutual understanding in Azerbaijan. The tradition of religious freedom and tolerance has become an integral element of Azerbaijan's identity, he said.
"The comprehensive legislative framework adopted in Azerbaijan to protect and transmit the rich historical, material and spiritual heritage to future generations guarantees equal rights and freedoms for all, regardless of race, nationality, religion, language and gender," Mammadov said.
