Baku hosts event to mark Easter

An event on the occasion of the celebration of Easter was held in the Lutheran church in Baku.

Report informs that Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Siyavush Heydarov congratulated the country's Christian communities on this holiday.

"The preservation of peace between religious confessions is one of our main works. As you know, all religions are tolerant in Azerbaijan, every citizen of Azerbaijan is free to choose a religion," S. Heydarov said.

He recalled that during the first and second Karabakh wars, representatives of various religious confessions came out for the defense of their homeland, and some became martyrs.

During the event, the heads of the Christian communities of Azerbaijan congratulated the bright holiday of Easter. They also shared their impressions of their recent trip to Hadrut.

"God has heard our prayers. We thank God that our lands are free," said Emil Panahov, a representative of the Vineyard Christian religious community.

"Easter is of particular importance for Christians. In this regard, the trip to Hadrut was very important, since all Christian communities have been praying for the liberation of these lands for 30 years," said Idris Mammadov, head of the Alov Christian religious community.

In the end, there was a joint final prayer for the country and for peace between Russia and Ukraine.
