Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to pay a return visit to Iran, Iran's Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali said in his interview with RIA Novosti.

"We are ready to host Russian President Vladimir Putin at any time appropriate for him. We are also interested in hosting a top summit of Astana format in Tehran," the diplomat said.

According to him, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's visit to Moscow on January 19-20, 2022, was a turning point between the two countries. The ambassador said that in recent months, several delegations representing various fields had exchanged visits to implement the agreements reached by the presidents of the two countries.

It should be noted that the Astana format, which is the process of peace talks on Syria, was established at a meeting initiated by Russia, Turkiye, and Iran on January 23-24, 2017, in the Kazakh capital Nur-Sultan (Astana until 2019). The purpose of this format is to end the civil war in Syria. Representatives of Russia, Turkiye, Iran, the United States, and the United Nations, and Bashar al-Assad and the opposition, are taking part in the talks.
