US to supply Javelin missiles for $30M to Georgia

The US will deliver Javelin (FGM-148) portable anti-tank missile systems to Georgia for a total of $30 million, the Pentagon’s International Defense Development Agency reported, Report informs referring to TNG News.

It is noted that the State Department recognized the contract as not inconsistent with US foreign policy and national security.

“Javelin systems will help Georgia build long-term defense capabilities to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity… as well as improve Georgia’s ability to respond to current and future threats by increasing its anti-tank capabilities,” the agency said.

The Javelin is produced by a joint venture between Raytheon and Lockheed Martin. The systems are designed to destroy armored vehicles and low-flying targets. They were introduced into service with the American army in 1996. These systems were used during the Iraqi war and other armed conflicts.
