US Senate unanimously approves Lend-Lease Act for Ukraine

The Senate unanimously passed major legislation late Wednesday to revive a World War II-era program allowing President Joe Biden to more efficiently send weapons and other supplies to Ukraine amid Russia's bloody invasion, Report informs, with reference to Politico.

The Lend-Lease program created during World War II was seen as a game-changer in the conflict, as it allowed the US to quickly resupply the Allies without time-consuming procedural hurdles.

A group of Democrats and Republicans submitted the document to the upper house in late January, following media reports that Moscow was preparing for military intervention before Russia invaded Ukraine.

According to the document, if the conflict ends and the number of Russian troops is reduced to the level of March 2021, the expanded term of the American leader will end. The bill states that cyberattacks carried out by Russia and aimed at Ukraine's important infrastructure will be classified as armed attacks.

The document must now be approved by the House of Representatives. If it is approved, the bill will be sent to the President for signing.
