US begins first human trial of coronavirus vaccine

The first human trial of a vaccine to protect against coronavirus pandemic has started in the US, Report says citing BBC.

Four patients received the jab at a research facility in Washington.

The first person to get the jab on Monday was a 43-year-old mother-of-two.

Several others were next in line for a test that will ultimately give 45 volunteers two doses, a month apart.

But even if these initial safety tests go well, it could still take up to 18 months for any potential vaccine to become available for the public.

US President Donald Trump stated that this is a vaccine created in record time. The new coronavirus outbreak was first recorded in late December 2019 in Wuhan, the most populous city in Central China. The 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), officially named as Covid-19 by the WHO, has hit 162 countries so far. A total of 182,776 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus infection, including 7,174 deaths, 79,884 recovered.

On March 11, the WHO declared COVID-19 a pandemic.
