Türkiye plans to bring emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere to zero by 2053, country's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in Dubai, Report informs via TRT Haber.

"We plan to achieve the goal of zero emissions by 2053. By the end of the year, we expect to reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere by 66.6 million tons and plan to halve emissions by 2030," Erdogan said, speaking about Türkiye's plans to fulfill its obligations in within the framework of the Paris climate agreement.

According to him, currently the share of renewable energy in Türkiye is 55%. According to this indicator, it ranks fifth in Europe and 12th in the world.

Turkish authorities previously announced plans to invest about $1 trillion over 10 years in the development of renewable energy sources, including solar and wind energy.
