Turkey freezes deal on purchasing Italian helicopters

Turkey has suspended a 70 million euro deal for the purchase of helicopters from Leonardo S.p.A., an Italian multinational company specializing in aerospace and defense, following a diplomatic scandal between the two countries, Report informs referring to Italy’s daily papers, la Repubblica and il Fatto Quotidiano.

According to the media, the Turkish authorities are demanding an official apology from the Italian government and are not going to be content with clarifications through diplomatic channels.

At the moment, the 70 million euros worth deal on the purchase of training helicopters has been frozen, which was to be signed in the coming days. Three other Italian companies have also received warnings, including Ansaldo Energia, a large Italian power engineering company, which is building power plants in Turkey.
