Tbilisi, Georgia, hosted an event dedicated to April 23 - Turkey's National Sovereignty and Children's Day.

According to Report's local bureau, the Turkish Embassy in Georgia celebrated the holiday with Turkish and Georgian children.

Turkish Ambassador Fatma Ceren Yazgan and staff of the diplomatic mission first laid a wreath before the bust of the great Georgian writer and public figure Ilia Chavchavadze near the diplomatic mission building.

The ambassador informed the children about the history and importance of the national holiday, the founder of Turkey Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and Chavchavadze.

Yazgan said that Ataturk devoted today's holiday to children: "Every year this holiday is celebrated in different parts of the world with children. However, it is impossible to organize ceremonies on a large scale for two years due to pandemics. We mark this day in a different format in Georgia. The primary purpose of the holiday is for children to celebrate this day in peace."

According to the diplomat, Chavchavadze is one of the personalities who played an important role in nation-building like Ataturk: "It is crucial to celebrate the national holiday together with Turkish, Georgian and non-Georgian children and introduce them to these two great figures."

The event continued at the embassy. Yazgan dished out sweets to the children and played a fun game with them.
