Speaker: Issue of transition to proportional electoral system is not discussed in Georgia

"The issue of transition to a proportional electoral system is not discussed in the meetings of the Working Group on amendments to the electoral legislation in Georgia", Georgian Parliament Speaker Irakli Kobakhidze, Local Bureau of Report News Agency informs.

According to him, the bill on amendments to the Election Code will be developed and the document will be discussed in the parliament in the first half of July.

Kobakhidze noted that only 27 OSCE recommendations are being considered in the discussions held in the format of Working Group.

Notably, Georgian opposition demands transition to the proportional election system until the parliamentary elections in 2020. Today 20 opposition parties have submitted 300,000 signatures to the Georgian parliament with this demand.
