One of the functionaries of the former separatist regime in Karabakh, Hayk Shamiryan, was placed under house arrest in Armenia, his lawyer Ruben Melikyan said.

Report informs via Sputnik Armenia that Shamiryan was detained in connection with participation in rallies of the opposition movement "Tavush in the name of the Motherland."

Earlier, investigators conducted a search in Hayk Shamiryan’s apartment, after which he was detained. There are no official statements regarding the charges against Shamiryan.

During the years of occupation of Karabakh, Hayk Shamiryan was appointed the so-called "mayor" of the village of Askaran by the leadership of the former separatist regime.
