Shmyhal: Ukraine needs $37 billion in aid this year

In 2024, Ukraine needs at least $37 billion in financial assistance, country's Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said during a press conference, Report informs via UNIAN.

"Over the past two years of the full-fledged war, we have attracted over $75 billion of external aid. In fact, we are spending solely our internal resources for the needs of the defense security," he said.

He said the European Union, the United States, IMF, Japan, Canada and other G7 member States are the key donors of the direct budget aid.

"We attracted almost $37 billion in 2022. In 2023, we attracted over $42 billion. The plan for this year is to attract at least $37 billion in assistance from our partners," Shmyhal said.

He said the Ukrainian budget deficit this year exceeds 20% of Ukraine's GDP - $37 billion.

Ukraine expects to get $17.3 billion from EU's Ukraine Facilities mechanisms. Already in March, Ukraine expects the first funding of EUR 4.5 billion before ratification of Ukraine Facilities to cover the budget deficit.
