Russian parliament denounces Open Skies Treaty

The Russian State Duma has unanimously denounced the Open Skies Treaty, Report informs with reference to Russian media.

The Federation Council planned to support the document on the same day, but the day before it became known that the meeting was postponed, presumably, to early summer.

The Open Skies Treaty (OST) entered into force on January 1, 2002, and became one of the confidence-building measures in Europe after the Cold War: it allowed 34 participating countries to openly collect information about each other's military forces and activities.

In May 2020, the United States launched a termination procedure, which ended on November 22.

In January 2021, Moscow also announced the launch of relevant procedures for withdrawing from the OST.
