Russia suspends its participation in the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START I), which regulates relations between Russia and the United States in the field of strategic arms, Russian President Vladimir Putin said today in a message to the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
Russia does not withdraw from START I, but only suspends participation, Putin stressed, according to Report.
To return to the Treaty, Russia must understand how NATO's combined strike arsenal will be taken into account, the Russian president said.
Earlier, NATO stated that Russia does not fulfill the provisions of START I.
