Russian politician: Relations between Russia and Armenia move in the wrong direction

"Moscow considers the current relations between Russia and Armenia that move in the wrong direction, " Russian public figure, political analyst, director general of the Institute for Political Studies Sergey Markov told the correspondent of the Russian Bureau of Report, commenting on Vladimir Putin's trip to Yerevan on October 1.

"In fact, such trips usually combine a trip to some top international meeting and a visit to the country itself. It turns out that Vladimir Putin will participate in the Supreme Economic Council of the Eurasian Economic Union, however we cannot talk about political visit to Armenia, although the event will be physically held in Yerevan. As I believe, it is related to the fact that Moscow considers the current relations between Russia and Armenia that move in the wrong direction," he said.

According to Markov, Russia has several reasons for this: "There are several points. One of them is connected with the fact that Moscow demands to stop the persecution of Robert Kocharyan. There is some element, apparently, of personal hatred, personal vendetta on the part of Nikol Pashinyan, and possibly Levon Ter-Petrosyan, who stands behind Pashinyan against Robert Kocharyan."

According to the politician, the second point is connected with the fact that "there are too many American and European agents in the government of Nikol Pashinyan", which drive a wedge into Russian - Armenian relations.

And third, Nikol Pashinyan did not find the political will to move forward on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict: "Russia has already initiated the Kazan formula, the essence of which is that Armenia should return districts around Nagorno-Karabakh to Azerbaijan in exchange for unblocking Armenia, deployment of peacekeepers and the beginning of the negotiation process on the Nagorno Karabakh status. There are all opportunities to follow this path. Moscow says: "Come on, get ready!". However it seems that Nikol Pashinyan is not ready."
