It will take Ukrainian soldiers just a few weeks, not months, to learn how to use Abrams tanks, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said in an interview with Politico newspaper, Report informs.
“We are aware of the fact that training soldiers to operate Abrams tanks takes months. But we are also convinced that the United States have decided to provide Ukrainians with the insight, rapid training program for tank cooperation,” he said. “And this may mean that jointly with the highly motivated Ukrainian fighters, this training might take weeks rather than months.”
According to the newspaper, Kyiv will receive American tanks only in a few months. Currently, the US Department of Defense is working to resolve the logistical difficulties associated with the delivery of vehicles and their maintenance in the field, sources say.
The US military is developing a thorough training program for the Ukrainian military. In addition, the Pentagon will train the Ukrainian military in the tactics of integrating Abrams and other armored vehicles during operations.
