Over 280 protest participants detained in Yerevan

The Armenian police detained 284 participants in protests organized by the Tavush for the Motherland movement in Yerevan, Report informs via Sputnik Armenia.

The police added that 273 of them have already been released. The citizens were detained under Art. 182 of the Code of Administrative Violations of Armenia (failure to comply with a legal requirement of a police officer)

The number of detained protesters increased to 226 people, the country's Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

On Monday morning, supporters of the Tavush for the Motherland movement, led by Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, began actions of civil disobedience in the capital and regions of Armenia, blocking interstate highways, interregional roads and streets in Yerevan. After some time, the police began to detain protesters in the Armenian capital.

The protesters are against the process of delimiting the borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan. On May 9, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, who led the procession from Tavush to Yerevan, called on the prime minister to resign.
