Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is heading to New York to attend the 77th session of the UN General Assembly (GA), Report informs, citing TASS.

"The minister is on his way from Moscow to New York," a source in the Russian delegation said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin previously approved Lavrov as the head of the Russian delegation to the UN General Assembly. The event that opens the new annual session of the General Assembly is traditionally attended by presidents, prime ministers and ministers.

Lavrov will speak at a meeting of the UN General Assembly and plans to hold about 20 bilateral meetings.

A number of global issues are on the agenda: climate change, the food crisis, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the protection of the rights of national minorities, the renunciation of nuclear weapons. One of the days will be devoted to the situation in Ukraine.
