Georgian historian: Khojaly tragedy cannot be forgiven

"The Khojaly tragedy took place in front of our eyes and is the most inhumane act of genocide committed in history. This genocide cannot be forgiven and forgotten," Guram Markhulia, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of Sukhumi State University in Georgia, said at an event on the 30th anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy in the head office of SOCAR Georgia in Tbilisi, Report informs.

According to him, when he tells the students about the bloody events that took place in Khojaly on the night of February 25-26, 1992, they are horrified by the brutality of the tragedy.

The historian noted that Armenians also committed atrocities against Georgians: "Georgia can and must never forget the atrocities committed by Armenians in Abkhazia. I remember that when we were expelled from Abkhazia, the Armenians did not hide that they had been longing for it."

Markhulia says that the Georgian parliament should assess the Khojaly tragedy as an act of genocide.

At the end of his speech, he noted the victory of Azerbaijan over Armenia in 44 days and wished the friendly and brotherly people of Azerbaijan progress and peace.
