First flight of fifth-generation Turkish military aircraft MMU expected this year

The MMU fifth-generation military aircraft is one of the most ambitious technological projects in Türkiye, the implementation of which continues at an active pace with the participation of 3,000 specialists. Its first flight is planned for the current year, MMU chief designer Emre Yaban told Anadolu Agency, Report informs.

He noted that the company Türk Havacilik ve Uzay Sanayii (TUSAŞ) started work on the project in 2006 and today the development is at the final stage.

He noted that earlier, thanks to the project of another domestic aircraft - HÜRKUŞ - the developers have accumulated significant experience, in particular, in terms of designing a combat vehicle, stages of work and infrastructure formation. The development of the GÖKBEY helicopter and the HÜRJET light attack aircraft also became an important experience, he added.

“We plan to form a domestic military aviation base in order to fly domestic aircraft with systems developed by Turkish companies. This is the significance of the fifth-generation aircraft project. Seven prototypes will be developed on the way to serial production. Then, system testing, flight and ground testing will be gin. We plan to carry out the first deliveries of the aircraft to the Turkish Air Force by 2028,” Yaban said.
