More than 1,000 COVID cases confirmed in Iran within a day

The number of cases tied with coronavirus infection in Iran increased by 966 per day, and the number of lethal outcomes increased by 123.

As Report informs citing TASS, such data was revealed by the Head of the Department of Public Relations of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education of the Republic of Kiyanush Jahanpur.

"During the day, 966 new cases of coronavirus in the country were recorded. The total number is 20610," Jahanpur said.

The Health Ministry's representative added that 1556 people died.

Earlier it was reported about 19644 ill and 1433 lethal outcomes.

Iranian Health Ministry reported the first cases of coronavirus infection in the country on February 19. Infected people were identified in Qom Province. Due to the spread of the virus, all Iranian schools are closed until the end of March. As a preventive measure, many countries have limited communication with the Islamic Republic.

On March 11, the World Health Organization declared the outbreak of the new coronavirus COVID-19 a pandemic. The number of infected people worldwide exceeds 234 thousand: 10 thousand people died.
