The Office of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs has announced the possible extension of the EU civilian mission in Armenia for another two years, Report informs via Azatutyun, which refers to the High Representative's press service.
"Member states welcomed the proposal and are currently discussing the necessary legal acts with relevant EU Council bodies. The Council's decision on extension is expected in the coming days," the press service says.
Baku previously stated that the EU mission's activities in Armenia along the Azerbaijan border should be terminated.
More than 100 observers from the EU mission began patrolling in Armenia along the Azerbaijan border in February 2023. Former EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell announced on December 11 of the same year the decision to increase the number of observers from 138 to 209. In January 2024, the Armenian government approved an agreement on the status of the EU civilian mission.
