Erdoğan: Turkey will add a new one to its history of August victories

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Saturday that Turkey had seen many military victories in Augusts in history, and that a new victory would be added to this chain this month. Report informs citing the RIA Novosti.

Erdoğan said in his video message to Turks for the Eid al-Adha holiday that the last example of those August military victories was the Operation Euphrates Shield in Syria that was launched on August 24, 2016 to push the ISIS from its southern border and stop the advance of Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) in northern Syria.

The operation ended in 2017 after the Turkey-led Free Syrian Army (FSA) forces seized control of the key towns of Jarabulus, Al Rai and al Bab.

“We will add a new link to our history’s chain of victories this August,” Erdoğan said.

“We will continue to disappoint those who use various methods -from terrorist attacks to economic traps- to hinder Turkey in the period ahead of us,” Erdoğan said.

Erdoğan announced last week that Turkey was to launch a military operation in northern Syria against the YPG, which it sees as an extension of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). Erdoğan said both Russia and the United States had been told of the planned operation, which would be the third Turkish incursion into Syria since the start of the civil war in 2011.
