"If case of peace between the parties, the return of the occupied territories is important," Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in an interview with American media, Report informs, referring to TRT Haber.

"It is what we want and expect. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres takes steps in this regard. There are steps we have taken. Ensuring the return of territories along with these steps would ease our work," the head of state said.

At the same time, touching upon the occupation of Crimea, the Turkish leader stressed that the peninsula should be returned to its historical owners: "Crimea should be returned to its historical owners, who are our compatriots. Taking such a step is in the interest of Turkiye, Ukraine, and the Crimean Tatars. But unfortunately, no action has been taken so far."

He also noted that he did not take sides in the war: "I don't think Russia or Ukraine is better. Our only wish is for this war to end peacefully. This is my advice and request to Mr. Putin and Zelenskyy. There is no winner in a war that results in the death of people. Until now, nearly 3 million tons of grains have been exported from Ukraine. In terms of grain export, my only wish is to transport grain to less developed or poor countries, not developed ones."
