Borrell: EU defense ministers to approve another 500M euros for arming Ukraine

The Council of Defense Ministers of the European Union will approve the allocation of another 500 million euros to Ukraine for armaments at a meeting of the Council for Foreign Affairs, which takes place on May 17 in Brussels, Report informs referring to the Ukrainian media.

Head of EU diplomacy Josep Borrell is the initiator of the fourth tranche to Ukraine from the Intergovernmental Fund for Peaceful Opportunities.

Borrell reminded that the situation in Ukraine in connection with the war waged against it by Russia will be the subject of discussion by the heads of defense departments of the EU member states with the participation of Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov and NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana via video link.

Out of the 500 million euros of the proposed assistance, 490 million euros will be allocated for lethal and 10 million euros for non-lethal weapons.
