WHO reports steady decline in global COVID incidence, mortality

The global COVID-19 incidence fell by 9% over the past week, and mortality decreased by 15%, said the World Health Organization (WHO), Report informs via Interfax.

From August 15 through August 21, the COVID-19 incidence fell in all six regions, with the most significant declines in Africa (by 25%), Europe (by 20%) and the Americas (by 18%).

At the same time, WHO notes that some countries have changed their COVID-19 testing, and fewer tests are now provided and, accordingly, fewer cases of the disease are recorded.

In just a week, more than 5.3 million cases of COVID-19 were detected worldwide.

Coronavirus deaths fell in all regions except Africa and the Western Pacific, where the mortality increased by 183% and 8%, respectively. In other areas, a decrease in mortality was recorded; the drop was 30% in Europe.

In total, 14,000 COVID- related deaths were recorded worldwide over the week.
