A study by Israeli doctors confirmed the effectiveness of the national strategy for mass vaccination. Scientists said that the number of new SARS-CoV-2 infections among the elderly and young Israelis in February-March 2021 decreased sharply, according to the research results published by the Nature Medicine journal, Report informs referring to TASS.

“Two months after the start of vaccination, the number of infection cases decreased by 77 percent, and the number of severe cases of COVID-19 fell by 67 percent. This trend was especially strong among the elderly, who are most vulnerable to infection and were first vaccinated,” the researchers wrote.

Israel was one of the first in the world to begin full vaccination of the population against COVID-19. More than 5.35 million people have received the first dose, and more than 4.97 million – the second, that is, more than half of the country’s population.

In the course of vaccination, the authorities gradually removed restrictions related to containing the spread of SARS-CoV-2.
