US to supply reconnaissance drones in Taiwan military aid package

The US government will provide Taiwan with four MQ-9A reconnaissance drones as part of a $345 million military aid package, Report informs referring to TASS citing the Taiwan Central News Agency.

According to military sources, the exact delivery time is not yet known, as US specialists are currently dismantling the most advanced equipment from drones. The source also noted that the aid package will include training programs and ammunition.

Ying Yu Lin, an associate professor at the Institute for Strategic Studies at Taiwan's Tamkang University, pointed out that the MQ-9A drones will be able to greatly enhance Taiwan's reconnaissance capabilities. In addition, they are capable of real-time transmission of received information via satellite communications.

Taiwan previously ordered four more advanced modifications of the MQ-9B SeaGuardian from the United States for $217 million. The deal was approved by the Donald Trump administration, and the delivery should be completed in 2025.
