US military to stay in Washington for another two months

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin had allowed National Guard troops to stay at the Capitol for another two months, Report states, citing RIA Novosti.

According to him, the National Guard will remain in the capital until May 23, 2021.

A relevant request was sent to the Capitol police.

Earlier, the Capitol police have stepped up security measures due to reports of a possible plot.

On January 6, supporters of then-US President Donald Trump stormed the Congress building, interrupting a meeting to confirm the last election results. Five people died as a result of the accident.

Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser has ordered a curfew. According to the latest information, 55 people have been charged. After that, National Guard units were brought to the city.
