The US plans to deploy medium-range missiles in Asia soon to deter China, General Charles Flynn, commander of the US Army Forces Pacific, said in an interview with foreign media, Report informs.

Flynn noted that it is extremely important for the US to find a way out against the modernization of China's missile capabilities: "We plan to cooperate with allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific region and soon deploy such missiles in the region."

The general did not provide specific information about the types of weapons, deployment dates and planned locations.

In particular, the newspaper Yomiuri said that he talked about "Typhon" launchers, which can launch Tomahawk cruise missiles and SM-6 anti-aircraft missiles.

Previously, according to the provisions of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty signed between the USSR and the United States in 1987, Washington could not deploy surface-to-surface ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and missile launch systems at a distance of 500 to 5,500 km.

However, former US President Donald Trump withdrew from the agreement in 2019, citing Russia's violation of the agreement.
