Over 42 thousand have been diagnosed with coronavirus infection in 50 US states over the past 24 hours, while 571 people died, Report says, citing RIA Novosti.

According to Johns Hopkins University, the US confirmed 42,048 new coronavirus cases over the past day.

So far, 5,404,115 people have contracted COVID-19  in the United States, resulting in more than 170,000 deaths and over  1.8 million recoveries.

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) emerged in late 2019 in China’s Hubei province, and the virus has spread to more than 200 countries and territories since then.

On February 11, the WHO officially named the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) as COVID-19, and on March 11, declared it a pandemic.
