US Congress restarts joint session to approve election results

The US Congress has resumed a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives to approve the presidential election results, Report states, citing RIA Novosti.

Earlier, the House of Representatives approved only the votes from Alabama and Alaska, and then the session was suspended for a long time due to riots at the Capitol by supporters of President Donald Trump.

The lawmakers, who met again in the evening, confirmed for three hours only Arizona's votes. Forty-seven states remain unapproved, and it is unclear which will be challenged by senators and members of the House of Representatives. Opponents of Biden's short-term presidency had previously planned to protest the results announced in some states, but riots could change their plans.
