US Feds are banning TikTok on government devices following many states, due to security concerns, Report informs, citing Fox News.
Expert on China Gordon Chang explains the move by saying any Chinese company is under the compulsion to spy, no matter what protection is.
"We have to recognize that," he said in an interview to the TV channel.
Republican Nicole Malliotakis notes the importance of the move in terms of both national and cybersecurity, adding that two years ago the same step was taken by the military.
"It was followed by the department of homeland security," she noted.
According to Malliotakis, it makes sense that the next logical step would be to ban it on all the government devices.
She said this is also about the security of all US citizens, since TikTok is gathering the personal information of every user. Malliotakis noted that 100 million Americans are the users of the platform.
It is also the dissemination of false information, Malliotakis noted, adding that this is the way the Communist Party of China controls its population.
"We can't allow that here in the United States," the Republican said.
As for how to protect the younger generation from the negative influence of TikTok, Malliotakis noted that the debates on whether to impose a total ban on this platform may be held next year.
She added that China is the biggest threat for the United States and this threat should be taken seriously.
