UNCHR: Nearly 150,000 Yemenis fled in 2021

Families in Yemen continue to be displaced because of the fighting and deteriorating economy, Report informs, referring to the Twitter account of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

“In 2021 alone, nearly 150,000 Yemenis were forced to flee. Mainly from Marib, Taiz and Hudaydah,” the tweet said.

The Yemeni government says the number of IDPs has reached 4.1 million since the start of the war.

Armed conflict has been going on in the country since September 2014. The Houthis have seized large areas of territory in the west, including the capital, Sanaa.

Government forces, backed by a Saudi-led Arab coalition, have been fighting the Houthis since March 2015.
