UN: World hunger dramatically worse in pandemic year

The coronavirus pandemic in 2020 significantly exacerbated hunger worldwide, with roughly a tenth of the world's population, or 811 million, suffering from malnutrition, the UN report says.

Report informs, citing RIA Novosti, that, according to the foreword, the coronavirus pandemic continues to expose weaknesses in food systems that threaten the lives and livelihoods of people around the world.

9.9% of the world's population suffered from malnutrition in 2020, up from 8.4% in 2019.

More than half of the undernourished people (418 million) live in Asia, 282 million in Africa, 60 million in Latin America and the Caribbean. The authors of the report note that hunger affects children to a large extent.
