UN welcomes talks between Putin, Trump

The United Nations hails Monday’s phone call between the Russian and US presidents, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, Stephane Dujarric, Spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, said, Report informs via TASS.

"I think the fact that there were phone conversations between <…> President Trump and President Putin in itself is to be welcomed," he said at a briefing answering a TASS question. He also welcomed Trump’s talks with Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"Our stand continues to be that we will support any effort that will lead to an end to the war in Ukraine," he stressed.

Putin and Trump held phone talks on May 19. According to the Russian leader, the call lasted for more than two hours. He highly assessed his conversation with his US counterpart, describing it as constructive.
