Trump: US can withdraw troops from Middle East

Baku. 28 November. REPORT.AZ/ US President Donald Trump floated the idea of removing US troops from the Middle East, citing the lower price of oil as a reason to withdraw.

Report informs citing the Interfax, US president said in an interview with Washington Post.

“Now, are we going to stay in that part of the world? One reason to is Israel,” Trump said. “Oil is becoming less and less of a reason because we’re producing more oil now than we’ve ever produced. So, you know, all of a sudden it gets to a point where you don’t have to stay there," Trump said.

At the same time, according to him, one of the reasons why the United States can remain in the Middle East is to protect the interests of its partner Israel.

Notably, US troops have been present and conducting operations in Iraq since 2003, and since 2014, American troops have been sent to Syria.
