The current US leader, Donald Trump, has banned the head of the US Vice President's office, Michael Pence, from entering the White House, who refused to interfere with the approval of the presidential election results, Report states, citing NBC.
The US Congress is holding a meeting of both chambers, which must finally approve the vote results. According to American law, Pence presides over the session. Before the meeting, he sent a letter to lawmakers amid pressure from Trump, in which he stressed that he did not have the authority to challenge the results of the electoral college vote. According to him, the new head of state should be Democrat Joseph Biden.
According to NBC sources, Trump closed access to the White House to Mark Short, the chief of staff of the United States vice president. According to the TV channel, Short, in particular, advised Pence on issues related to the election results' approval.
"Mike Pence didn't have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our country and our Constitution, giving States a chance to certify a corrected set of facts, not the fraudulent or inaccurate ones which they were asked to certify previously," said Trump on Twitter. "USA demands the truth!"
Donald Trump-supporting rioters breached the halls of Congress on Tuesday afternoon, forcing staff and lawmakers to barricade themselves in offices and take cover under chairs in the House after both chambers convened to formally count the Electoral College results from the 2020 presidential election.
Notably, general elections were held in the United States on November 3, 2020. On December 14, the electoral college approved the vote results, according to which Biden will become the new head of state. Trump continues to claim election fraud.
