Chilean police have detained a man who threw a stone at President Gabriel Boric during his visit to the city of La Serena, BioBioChile radio station on Friday.
Report informs citing TASS that a stone the size of a tangerine hit the chief of staff of the head of state, Matthias Mesa Lopeandia, who was standing next to the president. Because of the incident, Boric was taken away from the square, where he greeted the residents of La Serena. The officer hit by the stone was not injured.
The detained 31-year-old man was taken to the police station.
The visit to the Coquimbo region was Boric's first trip to the regions of Chile since he took office on March 11. After the incident, the head of state wrote on Twitter that he was grateful to the residents and authorities of Coquimbo and La Serena for the reception. "We are building Chile by listening and looking into the eyes, even if it annoys some (very few) people," he added.
