Spanish FM says relations with Argentina may be severed

Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares allowed a rupture in Spanish-Argentine relations after Argentine President Javier Milei called the wife of the Spanish Prime Minister, Begona Gomez, a corrupt official, Report informs referring to TASS.

The Spanish diplomat was speaking in an interview with the Cadena SER radio station.

“Obviously we don't want to take these steps, but if there is no public apology, we will do it,” he said in response to a question about whether the Spanish government was considering severing ties with Argentina.

He also said that on May 20 he plans to meet with the ambassador of Argentina. “I will hold a meeting [with the President of Argentina], convey the seriousness of the current situation and again demand a public apology from Javier Milei,” he said. “We are waiting for them and will continue to act accordingly if they do not follow,” the foreign minister added. He assured that none of the measures the Spanish government might take would “harm” the broad range of relations between the two countries.
