Spain posts slowdown in coronavirus spread

The rate at which coronavirus is spreading in Spain has started to slow, kingdom's Health Minister Carolina Darias said, Report informs, citing TASS.

"We see that the growth in infection cases is slowing," the minister said in an interview with the Onda Cero radio station, "We need to continue to vaccinate the population unless we reach 100% (of vaccinated residents) or somewhere around it. We won't be safe unless everyone is vaccinated," she said.

"It seems likely that we will have to introduce the third dose [of the COVID-19 vaccine]," Darias said, "We need to define when to do it."

The minister also voiced the opinion that the vaccination will be carried out on an annualized basis.

The 47-million strong Spain has reported over 4.2 million coronavirus cases, and over 81,000 deaths since the novel coronavirus started to spread. The country launched the vaccination campaign on December 27, 2020.

Currently, more than 52% of Spanish residents are fully vaccinated against coronavirus. Nonetheless, the number of infections has surged dramatically among young people, whose turn for vaccination against coronavirus is yet to come. In this connection, the authorities of various regions of the country applied restrictions again.
