Reasons behind decrease in asylum seekers in Germany revealed - STATISTICS

The number of asylum seekers in Germany has decreased.

The European Bureau of Report informs, citing the German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF), that in November this year, the Federal Office decided in connection with 14,136 appeals. The number of requests has reached 56,958.

BAMF notes that in January-November 2019, 133,324 people applied for asylum, a 12.3% drop from the same period last year (151,944 applications).

In November 2019, BAMF received only 10,263 applications for asylum, which is 15.3% less than in the same period last year and 7.5% less than the previous month.

Sources at BAMF told Report that there are several reasons behind the decline in the number of asylum seekers. One has to do with the material assistance the EU countries provide to Turkey for sheltering Syrian refugees, as well as the start of the creation of a "safe zone" in northern Syria. Increased checks at the German border also contributed to a significant reduction in illegal migration.

In contrast to previous years, the "Dublin agreement" was implemented by 60-70%, and those who received asylum returned to the countries that granted Schengen visas.

BAMF believes that a decrease in the number of appeals will ensure more effective management of processes and help consider the requests more qualitatively.
