Protest in New Delhi over controversial statements about Prophet Mohammed

A Muslim protest action due to scandalous comments about the Prophet Muhammad by the official representative of India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Nupur Sharma, was staged in New Delhi today.

Report informs citing TASS that hundreds of protesters gathered after Friday prayers in the old part of New Delhi at the Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in South Asia. The protesters strongly condemned Sharma's remarks and demanded that the authorities arrest her.

The scandal began after comments about the Prophet Muhammad Nupur Sharma made during a debate on national television last week. Many Muslims in India found her words offensive.

The Indian government and the BJP have distanced themselves from Sharma's words. She is stripped of her post and expelled from the BJP.

Earlier, the Indian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Bavitlung Vanlalvavna was also summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan about Sharma's statement.
