Parliament of Uzbekistan to retain status of Karakalpakstan

The Parliament of Uzbekistan will retain the sovereignty of Karakalpakstan in the draft amendments to the country's Constitution, Report informs via Uzbek media.

The Republic of Karakalpakstan is part of Uzbekistan. Earlier, Karakalpaks recorded video messages in which they expressed their disagreement with the proposed changes. On July 1, citizens of Karakalpakstan staged protest rallies in Nukus, the Karakalpak capital.
