Pakistan's PM announces new government policy

Pakistan's newly elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has been sworn-in in the capital Islamabad on Monday, Report informs, citing Anadolu.

Addressing the parliament, Shehbaz said relations with Turkiye and other allies would be the top priority of Pakistan's foreign policy.

Pakistan and Turkiye are locked in inseparable bonds, and Ankara has always stood alongside Islamabad, he said.

Turkiye has "immensely progressed" under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, he added.

Shehbaz has called for improving ties with the US, terming them "critical" for Pakistan, a noticeable departure from Khan's frosty relations with Washington that he accused of orchestrating his ouster.

Sharif discussed the foreign-policy failures of the outgoing government and said he would expedite the multibillion-dollar China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project and rebuild broken ties with partners and allies.

"We want good relations with India, but there cannot be sustainable peace unless the issue of Kashmir is resolved," he said.
