US Vice President Kamala Harris has emerged as the clear frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination following President Joe Biden's decision not to seek re-election.
According to Report, which cites Axios, just 30 hours after Biden's announcement, Harris has already garnered the support of 229 members of Congress, including 43 senators, and 23 state governors.
The groundswell of support for Harris comes on the heels of Biden's lackluster performance in the June debates against Republican candidate Donald Trump.
Calls for Biden to step aside had been growing louder within Democratic circles, paving the way for Harris to take up the mantle.
